I had the opportunity to attend NFT NYC all of last week, and thought it would be good to share some key takeaways with our readers.

With over 15,000 attendees, the event pretty much took over Time Square and NYC. It was hard not to turn your head without spotting an NFT related billboard, activation, or an enthusiast. Aside from some fantastic speakers from the community, it was great to see representation from entertainment & sports like Spike Lee, NBA athletes, olympians, and studios like Warner Bros Discovery who now already have a ‘Head of NFT Commercial Development’.

Three Main Points from the Conference

It’s not a bear market, it’s a build market

There is a very strong belief in the long term impact and growth of NFT’s. In the last year, there has been a lot of noise, and this market correction will tell us who are the tourists, and who are the settlers. Many companies are using this time to build better products, and hire better talent that was unavailable a few months ago.

Authenticity will be rewarded, by the community

There are many sitting on the sidelines, reading the occasional article of an overnight success or those of rug pulls, hacks and shills. The real evangelists understand how to build a community and keep it engaged for the long term with authentic value and utility. Think ‘what do my fans really care about, and how can NFT’s support that’ as opposed to ‘I have an IP, I need to launch an NFT’.

Fuelling a new Creator Economy

The Creators & Musicians are most excited about this space, as it gives them direct access. Today, on traditional platforms creators neither own their community nor do they own their own content. New technologies will allow them to have more control over their commercial success.

Overall, I’m coming back from NYC feeling very optimistic about this space, and excited to work with our partners to help navigate this new, ever changing landscape and environment. We are learning, along with you, every day.
